Ant Control

Effective ant control begins with reducing the opportunities ants have to make themselves at home in your yard or house. Ants are opportunistic and dedicated foragers who sometimes travel in groups to search for food to bring back to the colony. The simplest way to prevent ants from entering your home is to eliminate the opportunities they have to find food.

Be sure to call us after you have examined the interior of your home. Our ant control team will help you identify the type of ant infestation you have, and provide you with additional tips while you wait for our technicians to arrive.

Types of Ants

Farrell’s Spray Service specializes in ant control that effectively kills and protects against all species of ants found in Eastern Washington. Our ant spray is equally effective against spiders and other low crawling insects such as earwigs.

Here are some of the common ants that are found in homes and yards in Spokane and Eastern Washington:

Odorous House Ants

Commonly referred to as sugar ants, odorous house ants are small, dark brown or black ants that are most often found in bathrooms and kitchens. When crushed, sugar ants release a rotting fruit smell that resembles spoiled coconuts. These ants prefer damp places that provide a steady source of water. In the yard, these ants are commonly found in the garden or in other foliage that produce sweet or sugar fruits or vegetables.

Odorous house ants are a nuisance pest that can be difficult to deal with, but generally harmless to humans or pets.

Carpenter Ants

Carpenter ants are one of the largest species of ants found in Eastern Washington. They have dark colored bodies that can appear entirely black, entirely red, or a combination of red and black. They are commonly found outdoors in live trees, tree stumps or logs. Many people think carpenters ants eat wood, but that is a myth! Carpenter ants nest and build colonies in wood. They do not use it as a source of food.

If you have noticed flying ants in or around your home, you have a carpenter ant problem and it’s time to call Farrell’s Spray Service!

Pavement Ants

Pavement ants are a common feature of driveways and sidewalks in Spokane! These tiny black or brown ants nest nest in soil which is why you may notice them swarming near cracks in the pavement. These nuisance pests are opportunistic and will enter homes in search of food.

Pavement ants do not pose a threat to humans or pets, but if they have easy access to your home, you can quickly become overwhelmed by nests and colonies. Pavement ants can survive in many environments including insulation, inside walls, attics and throughout liveable spaces in the home.
